8 Years of Joy

Tomorrow is my son's 8th birthday. Wow! For eight years I've been on this motherhood journey, which has made me a better person and been such an emotional ride! I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Doors

Hello!

You're probably wondering why I'm showing you a picture of a door, huh? It's not particularly artistic, but it's something I've wanted ever since the hubster and I have moved into this new house.

This door covers the attic space in our bonus room (aka: my studio), which is also over the porch breezeway. Before this door was installed [by the very talented hubster], cold air would RUSH through this room, making it impossible to heat, and therefore, work in. Every time my hubby would ask what I want for upcoming holidays I would say, "attic doors."

And boy did he deliver and I am in love! {Is it wrong to be in love with doors?} This weekend I'm going to organize this space and get it into working order. I can't paint the room yet, it will have to wait for now. But, I have so many ideas going through my head and I'm very excited to finally have my own space to work and make a mess in!

For now, check out a page from the altered book I'm working on in a class that I'm taking locally. I keep meaning to take pictures from the class, but when I get there, I get to work (so does my mouth) and I totally forget about pictures for my blog!

Something New

I'm trying some new things for my Etsy Shop, like this ceramic coffee cup and canvas tote. I'm really loving playing around with both mediums and I want to continue to experiment!

With the ceramics, I'm trying to give the pieces a mixed-media look. Not totally easy, since I'm limited to using only the ceramic paint. But I'll keep playing around with texture and colors.

I want to do the same thing with the totes. A lot easier since I can use fabric, paint, embellishments, etc. And just by finishing the above tote, gave me ideas for other bags, so I have a lot that's going to keep me busy!

Am I?

Is it weird that I write a blog - 2 actually - but don't consider myself a writer? I've been trying to come up with an 'About Me', thinking of everything I label myself as, and writer is not one. Just a thought...

Funny Friday

How did you spend your Friday afternoon? If it was bland & boring or totally stressful, I hope that the story of my afternoon will bring a smile to your face. The above picture is of Kiki, my cat. I've mentioned her before, but today she gets a blog post dedicated to her!

Which brings me to the next picture. It looks like a bag of dog food on top of a collander, but there is more than meets the eye!

Ever since we put a fence in the backyard, we've let Kiki out to enjoy the sunshine (she's a bit too fat to climb over the fence, so I know she won't run away). Most days, she just lays on the deck, catching the rays. TODAY, she decides to channel her hunting ancestors and caught a lizard (or chameleon). And before I could catch her, she brought it into the house and as I grabbed her, she dropped it! The little guy ran for his life and in doing so, kept me busy for a good hour-and-a-half!

He hulled up behind a desk that's in my entryway. My husband told me not to worry about it until he got home. But the little sucker kept trying to escape! I spent a good 45 minutes chasing him back behind the desk - trying to explain to him that if he got out, Kiki would have him for an afternoon snack. I apparently don't speak chameleon. So I had to take action.

I got the collander ready (it has holes so he could breath) and the heaviest thing I could think of (a bag of dog food) and waited. And waited .... and waited ... until finally the little guy crawled out from behind the desk, in which Kiki chased him, I chased Kiki (screaming like I was being murdered) and finally put the collander over him and the bag, so that he could not escape.

I'm happy to say that my husband freed him as soon as he got home - back into the backyard. I would have tried, but I didn't want to deafen the little fella with all of my screaming! {BTW - not a neighbor one came by to find out if I was ok or dead or whatever. Nice!} I have to admit, I rarely have a boring day with my dog and cat around the house! (I call them The Sisters)
